Birth Plans

I've heard lots of expectant mom's debate about birth plans over the past few years:
  • Vaginal delivery v. C-section
  • Epidurals v. All Natural
  • OBGYNs v. Midwives
  • Hospitals v. Birth Centers
  • How long should you stay at home before going in? When should you call the doctor?
  • Comfort choices during labor: walking, whirlpool tubs, music, warm showers, labor balls, etc,
All of those options seem trivial at this point. As long as a baby comes home healthy does it matter?

Never have I heard of a birth plan like the one set in front of us today. In my mind birth plans should never have words like this inside it like this:
  • Fatal fetal anomaly
  • High risk of stillbirth
  • CPR
  • Ventilators
  • Do Not Resuscitate
  • Hospice
  • Infant autopsy
  • Funeral home of choice
Seems like just about the worst "birth" plan ever. Desperately wishing our choices were different, but they're not.
